Photo tips

I can paint only what I can see!

Make sure to pick a photo reference for your painting that depicts the best your pet's personality and attitude. Pay special attention to the eyes: are they expressing all the feelings you have for your pet and he/she has for you? The picture you select must make you say "Awwwww! That's my boy / my girl! The one and the only! He / She is the most adorable and prettiest in the world! I wanna stare at you forever! ".

Now that you have selected this perfect photo that really captures the soul of your pet, there are 3 other technical things to look at to make sure the photo is suitable for a painting.

Those 3 things are : quality, light and posture.

Quality means that I need a high resolution photo to pick up all the details of your pet. I will often zoom on the picture during the time I paint, if the only things I see are pixels, it will make my task really hard or impossible!

Here is an example :

Take photos of your animal in natural light or outside if you can.

The light must be flattering for your animal! Try to ovoid full exposure or misplaced shadows.

Make sure that the picture is fully in focus and there is no flash lights in their eyes.

Example :

The posture is also an important aspect of the photo.

Try to get on your pet’s level (eye level) when taking the picture.

Select photos that are flattering but that also depict your pet’s personality!
